Locked Out in Cancun | House & Condo Lockout Service, 24 Hours

House lockout service in Cancun: front door lock with black ironwork

A lockout is the job we do most, and it is almost never anybody's fault. The door blows shut in the wind off the lagoon. The key stays on the kitchen counter while you take the rubbish out. The lock on a rental you have used twice does something you did not expect. We open doors on houses, apartments, condos, vacation rentals, offices and shops across Cancun, around the clock.

Three kinds of call dominate. Guests in vacation rentals and condos — Hotel Zone, Puerto Cancún, downtown — who are outside a door with no front desk to help. Residents in the Supermanzanas and Regiones whose lock has been on the door for fifteen years and finally gave up. And businesses on Tulum and Bonampak avenues that cannot open at six in the morning.

The thing that matters in a lockout is not speed, it is not breaking anything. A forced door costs several times the opening, and a destroyed lock has to be replaced the same day. If you are renting, it is also a deposit you will spend weeks arguing about. So we work the mechanism, not the door.

Why call us for a lockout

Most doors open with nothing damaged

On a standard residential cylinder the lock is manipulated from outside and keeps working afterwards. You do not need a new lock, new keys, or a conversation with your host about who pays for what. High-security cylinders, doors forced in the past and keys snapped inside the barrel are the exceptions, and in those cases we tell you the replacement price before touching anything.

The person on the phone speaks English

You will not be describing a broken lock through a translation app at one in the morning. Both the dispatcher and the technician speak English, which is the difference between explaining the problem once and explaining it four times while standing in a corridor.

A real arrival time, not a slogan

Mobile units are spread across the city rather than run from a single base. Downtown, the Regiones and the first kilometres of the boulevard are 20 to 30 minutes. Kilometre 20 of the Hotel Zone, Playa Mujeres or Alfredo V. Bonfil are longer, and we say so on the phone rather than when you are already waiting.

We confirm the home is yours to enter

Before opening we ask for something that shows you belong there — a booking confirmation with the address, a passport, an ID with that address, a lease, or the host or a housemate confirming by phone. It is mildly annoying for two minutes and it is precisely what you want us to do on the night somebody else tries the same door.

How we work

  1. Step 1 · Tell us what happened

Where you are, what kind of door it is, and whether anything inside makes it urgent — a child, a pet, a stove left on. That last one changes the order we dispatch in.

  2. Step 2 · We quote price and time

You get the full price in pesos with the dollar equivalent, and the arrival time, before anyone sets off. No charge for the call if you say no.

  3. Step 3 · The technician arrives

He gives his name and repeats the same price out loud before taking out a single tool.

  4. Step 4 · We check and open

You show what you have, and the door opens. A standard cylinder takes 5 to 15 minutes from the moment he is at the door.

  5. Step 5 · You test it and pay

You lock and unlock it yourself to confirm nothing was damaged, then pay — card, pesos or US dollars.

Frequently asked questions about house & condo lockouts

Are you going to break my door?

On a standard cylinder, no. The mechanism is worked from outside and the door is untouched. If the lock is high-security or has been forced before it may have to be replaced, and you get that price before anything starts.

I'm in an Airbnb and the host is asleep. What do you need from me?

The booking confirmation showing the address and your name, plus your passport, is the usual combination. A message from the host confirming you are the guest also works. Without anything at all we cannot open a rental.

Do you come out at three in the morning?

Every night of the year. Nights carry a surcharge of $200 to $400 pesos, quoted as part of the total on the phone.

How long does the opening itself take?

Five to fifteen minutes on a standard cylinder once the technician is at the door. A high-security lock can take half an hour.

Can you open a hotel room door?

Only through the hotel. Hotel rooms are opened by the property's own staff — call the front desk, it is faster and it is free. We handle condos, apartments and vacation rentals where there is no front desk.

I want the lock changed after you open it. Can you do it now?

Yes, the technician carries locks in the van. You pay the opening plus the new lock, and you get both figures before he starts.
